Professor Regazzi has been a prominent figure in the publishing industry and academia for over 30 years. Prior to the appointment of his current position (2005) as the Dean of both the College of Information and Computer Science and Palmer School of Library and Information Science of LIU, Dr. Regazzi served as the President and CEO of Elsevier Inc., and Managing Director of Market Development of Elsevier and its Electronic Publishing globally. He was responsible for Elsevier's research, advanced technology, and new strategic market initiatives. Dr. Regazzi extended Elsevier's electronic publishing strategy, including the successful launch and expansion of the company's flagship internet platform ScienceDirect, the initiation of the Elsevier ScienceDirect portfolio of online research solutions including Scirus, Endeavor/EnCompass, and the early design of Scopus, and has spearheaded several industry-wide electronic initiatives such as CrossRef. Prior to joining Elsevier, Dr. Regazzi was President and CEO of Engineering Information, Inc. (Ei), from 1988-1998, and he oversaw the company's incorporation into Elsevier Inc. During this time, he also served as Chairman of the Board of Article Express International, a joint venture document delivery company of DIALOG and Ei. Dr. Regazzi came to Ei from the H.W. Wilson Company where he had been employed for seven years as Vice President for Computer Systems and Electronic Publishing. Dr. Regazzi has also worked on many international programs in Europe and Asia, including in 1996 negotiating an agreement for the National Engineering Information Service for the Philippines directly with President Fidel Ramos and cabinet member, Dr. William Padulina, Secretary of Science and Technology, of the Philippines.
Dr. Regazzi received his doctorate in Information Science from Rutgers University in 1982. He is a graduate of Columbia University, where he earned an M.S. in Library and Information Science. Dr. Regazzi also holds an M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in Psychology from St. John's University.
Dr. Regazzi has been active in the profession through publications and presentations. In 2004, Dr. Regazzi was named as the recipient of the prestigious Miles Conrad Award of the National Federation of Abstracting and Indexing Service (NFAIS). He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CABI (1998 - current) and is / was a member of Ei Foundation Board of Directors (1998 - current), British Standards Institute Board of Directors (2006- current), and was Board of Directors of American Association of Publishers' Division of Professional and Scholarly Publishing (1999-2002). |
