Professor John J. Regazzi of Long Island University has accepted to deliver the plenary speech at the Symposium on Information Management in the Changing World, to be held from October 24-26, 2007, in Ankara, Turkey. We thank the US Embassy in Ankara for generously supporting this event. In his speech, entitled "Managing Scientific and Technical Information: A Changing Landscape", Professor Regazzi will talk about the technology that is changing the way we produce and manage scientific, technical and medical information. He will provide a perspective on some historical and current drivers that shape the scholarly communication process and discuss new initiatives along with future directions. (more) |

Steve Whittaker, Professor of Information Retrieval at Sheffield University, UK, has accepted to deliver an invited speech at the Symposium on Information Management in the Changing World, to be held from October 24-26, 2007, in Ankara, Turkey. We thank the British Council for generously supporting this event. In his speech, entitled "The Future of Information Retrieval", Professor Whittaker will discuss the trends of the last decade including the rise of search engines such as Google and identify some key challenges for the future of information retrieval. Professor Elmar Mittler of the University of Göttingen has accepted to deliver an invited speech on open access (OA) at the Symposium on Information Management in the Changing World, to be held from October 24-26, 2007, in Ankara, Turkey. We thank the Goethe Institute in Ankara for generously supporting this event. In his invited paper, entitled "Libraries as Infrastructure for Open Access", Professor Mittler will provide an overview of OA activities of libraries in Germany as well as in Europe. (more) |
